[01/02/17] Hi, hopefully everyone had a great holiday season! A little update for you, we had a buyer and The Point was to be sold by the end of 2016. Unfortunately, that deal fell through and The Point is still for sale. Let's take a poll, what do you miss the most at The Point? Is it breakfast? The steak sandwich? The custard?
A little over 1 year ago, my wife Jen and I took ownership of The point Drive In, purchasing it from my parents, Kay and Al. As some of you know, that transition did not go well. Followed by backlash, demands for more pay, not enough staff and finally my breakfast cook (my sister) quitting in February. Since than it has been hell. From trying to find enough, good help, to trying to keep the current employees happy. Communication was not my greatest asset as I tried to juggle 2 businesses, 3 kids and a wife. Not an easy task. When my sister/breakfast cook quit in February and I had to be here 7 days a week. It really took a toll on my health, my family life, and my other business took a tremendous hit by me not being there to focus and manage jobs. I've tried to stay positive, I tried to stay focused, I tried to keep everything going, knowing that eventually it would work out in the end. I kept plugging away, taking each day as a new start. But, in the end, it seems that no matter what I do, no matter what I said, it's not the right thing, I disappointed people and there's always someone pissed off at me. I've tried to focus on 1 thing at a time but, no matter what, I could never make things right. The 1 thing I wanted when I decided to take ownership of The Point was so my parents could retire. I accomplished that. My parents are officially retired and I'm TIRED. Tired of trying, tired of running my ass off, tired of trying to please everyone. Tired of doing so much, that everything is half assed. As of right now, we will NOT be reopening The Point after our shutdown on September 13th as expected. I will be putting the business up for sale and hopefully someone will come along that wants to continue what The Point has accomplished since Ed Kelm started it back in 1949 and What Earl Suemnict grew it, to what it is today.
To all my employees and loyal customers, I am sorry, Kevin.
